If you are looking for a work from home job, check out companies that specialize in remote work. It's very tiring when you're promised a full-time remote job and then it turns out it's all a joke, and the company's executives and managers push you to gradually return to the office (RTO) one, then two, then three to five days a week in the name of hybrid work. But it's not what you signed up for, and it's not what you agreed to.

An article in US political magazine The Hill reveals some surprising facts and sheds light on the future of fully remote work (or hybrid work):

"High-paying remote work has declined by nearly 60% over the past year, and hybrid work has declined by 95%, according to a new study by job site Ladders. Among people looking for jobs with a salary of more than $250,000 a year, only 4% are remote jobs. A year ago, that figure was 10%."

A recent Resume Builder survey of 1,000 companies found that 90% of respondents expect to be back in the office by the end of the year, with more than 40% saying three-quarters or more of their employees will need to work in the office. Of those planning to return to the office by 2024, 19% expect to work five days a week.

So you didn't quit your job thinking your work would forever be remote, you already have responsibilities that keep you out of the office every week. Unfortunately, if you quit your job now, the chances of finding a high-paying remote office job elsewhere are slim to none.

Shrinking locations

However, the sharp decline in the number of fully remote jobs doesn't mean it's all doom and gloom - there are still plenty of companies hiring remote workers, and these employers often belong to organizations that are heavily focused on remote work, so this trend is unlikely to change in 2024. Once remote working becomes part of a company's DNA and ethos, it's likely to become fully remote.

Not to be confused with GitHub. GitLab is an artificial intelligence-based DevSecOps platform that allows software developers to collaborate and complete projects with full security compliance. They currently offer over 100 remote jobs in various departments including sales, marketing, product and UX, engineering, security, management, administration, HR, legal, and more.

2. Buffer

Buffer is a social media marketing software used by marketers around the world. The company is actively seeking new hires for senior engineering positions in the front-end and back-end of its remote teams.

3. Automattic

This company has an interesting hiring philosophy that will appeal to most job seekers. The company does not use AT software to screen resumes and guarantees on their website that a real person (hiring manager or recruiter) will review your resume.
